  1. The Assembly started with the School Song and School Prayer Song. This was followed by the School Prayer. Thereafter Tanushree Jain informed the gathering of the International, National and Sports news. This was followed by a speech by Eliza Elizabeth George. The speech was written by Ms. Poonam Balani, English Teacher

Good morning dear Principal, Madam, Vice Principal, Vice President, Coordinator, teachers and my dear friends,

We have all gathered here on this wonderful morning for the Principal’s assembly. On behalf of the Primary section, I Eliza Elizabeth George extends to you a warm welcome. From my experience of 6 years, I assure you this is a wonderful school. I have really learnt a lot, made new friends and enjoyed myself immensely and I’m sure you will hear the same from the other students and teachers too.

From birth to the last flutter of flight, a butterfly’s journey is one of the enlightenment, growth, and survival in which a once-flightless creature appreciates the beauty of long- distance travel. A butterfly’s journey and education relate because they end with similar gains. A flightless butterfly symbolizes a student without an education; a winged butterfly represents a student in a residential school who has come far from home for an education and who develops the ability to view the world in a fresh way. We students too should flourish and see the world in new ways similar to a winged butterfly.

Jim Rohn said, “Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment”.

Here at Good Shepherd’s we do emphasize on discipline. Discipline is the absolute obedience to the command of a superior authority.

In our school our teachers may tell us to do the following-

  1. Don’t tell lies.
  2. Don’t sit on the desk

Similarly, at home when our parents tell us to do something, we do it. To do what our elders want, is to obey them. So discipline is nothing but orderliness. When we observe things keenly all around us discipline reigns supreme. Take for instance the earth, the moon and the stars that move around the sun in order. We can even take the life of bees in the hive. It is a model of disciplined life.

Life without discipline is like a boat without a rudder.

Education’s purpose is to replace an empty mind with an open one”.

Malcolm Forbes

A sculptor has a clear idea about what he wants to shape out of the marble block; similarly, a painter knows what he is going to paint, a teacher, who has a clear idea about the goal of his teaching can say that the end of all education is man making. Swami Vivekananda defined education as ‘the manifestation of the perfection already in man.’ The aim of education is to manifest in our lives the perfection, which is the very nature of our inner self. This perfection is the realization of the infinite power. After understanding the essential nature of this perfection, we should identify it with our inner self.

Children have to be educated, but they have also to be left to educate themselves.

Ernest Dimnet

We have a big library with an enormous selection of books and being an ardent reader myself I really relish it. So, please let’s use the facilities provided to us productively.

Our mission states that we are all life time learners and global citizens. Who is a global citizen?

A global citizen is one who

  • is aware of the wider world and has a sense of their own role as a compassionate human being

  • respects and values diversity

  • has an understanding of how the world works economically, politically, socially, culturally and environmentally.

  • participates in and contributes to the community at a range of levels from local to global

  • is willing to act to make the world a more sustainable place

  • takes responsibility for their actions.

With an increase in knowledge comes an increase in personal growth, along with the knowledge and skills that we need to succeed. It takes a fair amount of survival skills in order to adapt and thrive in a new environment. We are all here to guide and help you, so don’t worry and welcome again to the Good Shepherd family.

Thank you.

  1. The Principal then addressed all present. He welcomed all the students and staff to the school for the new academic year. He exhorted the new students to settle down quickly into the school routine. He directed that all students study hard, be friendly to one another and use all the facilities and infrastructure provided. The Principal advised all the teachers, counsellors and co-curricular staff to be available to the students at all times. The teachers must teach passionately so as to ensure the holistic development of the child, he said.

  1. The Principal, Senior Vice Principal and the Vice President then met all the student appointments (School Captain, House Captain, etc) as also all the new students and enquired of their well being.
